adrift was originally written for a concert of works inspired by ideas of water and fluidity. I find that my music is often very structured and deliberate - very much unlike the way water flows. In keeping with the idea of water and fluidity I thought it would be interesting to, by contrast, allow my musical materials to drift around, and use only delicate paddles to try to guide them.
